poppycock
Size - 28 cms tall by 22 cms wide
Style of frame - a dark solid oak frame
Fabric - I believe that this is a really special piece of Marianne Mahler (1908 – 1982), who was a renowned British textile designer. Born in Austria she grew up in Vienna before coming to the UK in 1937 where she created designs for textile manufacturers including Allan Walton, Edinburgh Weavers and Donald Brothers, and is best known for her work in furnishing fabrics for David Whitehouse Ltd in the 1950s. Her work is in the permanent collections of London's Victoria & Albert Museum, the University of Edinburgh, and MoMA, New York.
Wording - Poppycock – trivial talk, nonsense - a beautiful expression and my favourite suggestion of etymology suggests it comes from the Dutch dialect pappekak, made up of 2 parts - pappe "soft food" and + kak "poo".
